It copies a signal your brain already makes
The brain normally makes growth hormone-releasing hormone, or GHRH. GHRH tells the pituitary gland to release growth hormone. Sermorelin is a short, lab-made version of that signal. It does not contain growth hormone itself.

If the pituitary gland can respond, sermorelin may increase the amount of growth hormone it releases. The response can vary with age, sleep, body composition, other hormones, dose, and the health of the pituitary gland.

Another hormone, IGF-1, may rise
Growth hormone tells the liver and other tissues to make insulin-like growth factor 1, or IGF-1. IGF-1 is a hormone that carries out some of growth hormone’s effects on cells and tissues. Because growth hormone rises and falls throughout the day, clinicians may use an IGF-1 blood test as one clue about growth-hormone activity. A higher result is not automatically better and does not prove better strength, sleep, thinking, or lifespan.

In a small study of ten healthy older men, 14 days of higher-dose GHRH injections raised growth hormone and IGF-1 levels. The study showed that the hormone system responded. It did not show that the men felt better, functioned better, or lived longer.

In a three-month study of 22 healthy middle-aged and older men, higher-dose GHRH raised growth hormone and IGF-1. Researchers also measured more body water and non-fat body mass, less abdominal fat, and changes in some physical tests. Skin reactions occurred where the medicine was injected. This was a small study of a different form of GHRH—not a large trial of Halwel’s compounded sermorelin.
